Old habit to start a New Year
It was fifth teen minutes to 2012. But the dark sky was already bombarded with non-stop fireworks that sounded like a gun war. I was sitting on my knees on wooden floor inside a Buddhist temple. The place was filled with more than 1000 people. Let alone sitting comfortably, I was hardly move my feet. Soon enough, pain was crawling in both of my lags. I was forced to use every inch left of the empty space around me to stretch and free the blood circulations. This torturing situation plus the struggle to keep my eyes open despite the long and monotone pray was definitely excruciating.
For as long as I could remember, I’ve spent the last second of every year in my life, praying in the temple. Sometimes I wonder what it would be like to spend New Year doing something else, something less painful and more fun like being in the city. I imagined myself in the ocean of people, where together we’re counting down the last 10 seconds of a year and then let ourselves amazed by how fireworks work their magic to lighten up the dark sky.
It could be nice or completely the opposite. But tell you the truth that thought only goes as far as my imagination. I don’t really wanna do it, and even if I have to, there’s should be a really damn good reason.
Because to me, what I’m doing in the beginning of a year is like creating the basic story of a novel or a short fiction. When you got it wrong, it would be wrong all the way to the end. So I pledge my New Year resolutions and hopes within a pray. I pray for a great year not just for myself, but also for the whole nation and the rest of the world.
Have a blast New Year people!
